I actually checked my twitter account today and found out about this fabulous contest.  There are categories for kids, students, amateurs and professional photographers.  
World Photography Organisation Competition - The Sony World Photography Awards.

What was I thinking?  I forgot to post on this blog about the Roots in Detroit Photography Exhibit!  Well, it's here.  The contest for local photographers to capture the essence of Detroit and its roots took place months ago.  The show is tonight, Saturday, August 13, 2011.  Hope you can make it. Many of the photographers (including yours truly) will have prints for sale.    




First place goes to Susan Barnes with "Detroit Boxer, Darryl Cunningham prays before his fight at the Royal Oak Music Theatre"
Second place goes to Ron Warren with "Metro Gothic"

Garden Photography Contest $1,000 Prize

Horticulture & DavesGarden.com are sponsoring a Garden Photography Contest.


Great gardening goes hand in hand with great photography - that's why Horticulture is pleased to introduce the new Garden Photography Awards to celebrate the best in garden photography.  One grand-prize winner will be selected by renowned garden photographer, Rob Cardillo.  The winner will receive $1,000 and the photo with credit in an upcoming issue of Horticulture magazine.

Exposures: Photography 2011

The Lawrence Street Gallery has a call for entries for their April show.  Exposures: Photography 2011 requires photographs "All work must be ready for exhibiting and wired for hanging".  Entries accepted next week, March 23-26, 2011.  $150 prize for best in show.  Click here to link to the entry form.

The 2011 “Roots in Detroit” Photography Contest & Exhibition is specifically designed to recognize the exceptional talent of our local photographers and to celebrate our community through the art of photography.  Winning photographers (including 7 Honorable Mentions) will showcase their work in an exclusive Roots In Detroit Photographer’s Exhibition.  A 1-day exhibition to be held in August 2011. 
1st, 2nd, & 3rd Place Winners will receive “Roots in Detroit” Photography Competition Awards as well as top billing for the Exhibition.
