Free Backpacks, Groceries, and Haircuts at Summerfest

Corrections!!!!

Ron reconnected with a friend from high school this past year and did a photo shoot of her little dancers (as young as 4 years old), and we've become facebook friends as well.  Katie is very involved with her church, Liberty Foursquare Church in Warren.  For the past eight years, they have done a backpack drive before the school year begins.

Distribution of the school supplies will be held at Warren Summerfest on August 13th simultaneously at two locations:

  • 12-4 pm at Underwood Park on Sidonie (S/E of Schoenherr &Toepfer)
  • 1-6 pm at Shaw Park on Warner (Btwn 8 Mile & 9 Mile Roads)

Distribution of 800 backpacks and 1,000 boxes of groceries will take place.  YOU MUST REGISTER for these items.  They will also have fun activities for families, free haircuts to get the kids ready for school, bicycle repairs, and sports physicals.

If you are interested in finding out more, check out their website:  http://www.warrensummerfest.com/  (The site had a few glitches if you go through Google Chrome).  If you are on facebook, head on over to this Liberty Family Outreach page and LIKE it!

From the Press Release:

Warren, Michigan – One thousand boxes of groceries, eight hundred backpacks with school supplies, hundreds of haircuts, family photos, sports physicals and bicycle repairs is only a sampling of what Warren area churches, businesses and civic leaders are uniting to provide to families struggling through this economy. What started as one church eight years ago reaching their neighborhood has blossomed into an entire city working together to reach their residents and beyond. Summerfest is an outreach to the neighborhoods of Southeast Michigan with a focus on South Warren. Much of the population in these neighborhoods live in low-income housing. Many of the families are struggling to find one income and most have small children at home. Many have lost their jobs, hundreds have lost their homes, and most have lost their hope.

Summerfest is designed to restore hope to the hopeless and bring compassion to those in need. During the five hour program there will be live music, face painting, bike repair, family portraits, moonwalks, pony rides, crafts, haircuts, manicures, a hot dog meal, and free drawings for items like Ipods, and bicycles. In addition there will be eight hundred back packs with school supplies and one thousand boxes of groceries given away. Everything is absolutely free through the sponsorship of local churches and businesses.

Thank you and enjoy your summer!
