The Planet D Nonet was founded by (drummer) RJ Spangler and (trumpeter) James O’Donnell in 2007. Both men are lifelong eastsiders and they have been playing together for over 30 years ago.  The band plays the classic swing music of Ellington & Strayhorn, Fletcher Henderson, Count Basie & Benny
Carter as well as more modern jazz by Sun Ra and Pharoah Saunders, and always with a Detroit twist. The Planet D Nonet is about swing, blues, spaceage jazz and classic American songs all served with plenty of good humor.
Join us for an afternoon of good music and fun at the Library.
Advanced sign-up is appreciated but not necessary.

It's funny how opportunities arise.  Had to go home early from subbing today, but then, we got a call from this program we signed up for a few days ago called Your Face Pays!

Museum Adventure Pass MAY 2012

As you may have noticed, your local library has not offered any of the Museum Adventure Passes for the past few months.  They are revamping the program for the FINAL YEAR.  Please check out this link to the Museum Adventure Pass to find out more.  They will start up again in MAY.

For those of you not familiar with Museum Adventure Pass, it is a program that offers people either two or four FREE passes to local museums.  In the past, you would go to your local library, ask for a pass for one of the participating museums and get a coupon for two (or four) admissions that was good for about a week.  I don't think the DIA participated in the past year or two, but I believe MOCAD (which is FREE all the time, offered a discount at their store), Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, and the Detroit Historical Museum were some of the museums that participated.

This year, Museum Adventure Pass will be going digital and you will be able to ask questions, print tickets (for admission or discounted admission), and get reading recommendations.

Happy reading and museum hopping everyone!  I'll write another post in May (or June if I'm tardy) about this program.

Thanks Tina for prompting me to blog about this awesome FREE opportunity!
